Every year, the Taiwan International Trade Administration (TITA) and Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) highlight a select group of products that are made in Taiwan and show outstanding technical innovation and “real, life-changing impact.” The award goes to companies across a range of industries, such as electronics and communication, PC and software, transportation and fashion.

The awards for 2024 have been announced and Phison won distinction in the Electronics and Communication category for its E22T, a Gen4 PCIe SSD Controller IC created specifically for advanced automotive applications. As autonomous vehicles and other smart car-related technologies mature, the need for robust and reliable in-vehicle data storage is becoming more critical. The E22T IC delivers industry-leading Gen4 performance and can operate within a wider temperature range than other similar products—a plus for automotive applications that could face temperature extremes. The embedded device also complies with Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL)-B standards, supports single-root I/O virtualization (SR-IOV) and offers dual-port functionality to accommodate a wide range of application needs.

Phison also garnered recognition in 2023 for its industry-leading, customizable X1 SSD platform. The awards focus for 2023 was on AI and cloud applications, and the robust capabilities of the X1 SSD offer unparalleled NAND storage performance for modern data centers. The SSD is the industry’s most advanced U.3 PCIe Gen4x4 dual port SSD and is designed for today’s intensive enterprise workloads, such as those required for advanced AI projects as well as hyperscale data centers and high-performance computing (HPC).

The Phison X1 SSD: Developed in partnership with Seagate

Since 2017, Phison has partnered with Seagate, a world leader in precision-engineered data storage and management solutions, to develop cutting-edge products for today’s enterprise data centers. The X1 is simply the latest in a line of advanced solutions from the partners, and it features Phison’s own controller IP and firmware. The IP and firmware were developed together in Phison’s R&D facility, which resulted in a very stable and reliable design at product launch.  The X1 SSD solution represents Taiwan’s first-ever enterprise PCIe 4.0 SSD developed from Taiwanese technology.

The X1 is built for high performance, dynamic efficiency, lower power consumption and increased storage density to meet the needs of enterprise customers. It offers best-in-class features and uses NAND flash to its maximum potential. The SSD controller and storage solution helps decrease the total cost of ownership (TCO) for enterprises with demanding data storage requirements. It also enables enterprises to benefit from the high performance of NAND flash memory for all of their intensive computing needs.

One of the exciting things about the X1 SSD platform is that it’s customizable to customer specifications through Phison’s proprietary IMAGIN+ platform. As the largest SSD ODM and OEM manufacturer in the world, Phison can help customers develop and strengthen their own brands with X1 SSDs that include their product name and identifier in the firmware and unique firmware capabilities and optimizations according to specific performance, power and endurance needs. Customers also receive direct engineering support and a locked bill of materials with Engineering Change Order (ECO) support.

Phison Electronics Corporation was founded in 2000 in Hsinchu, Taiwan. Over the past 23 years, the company has grown from a provider of the world’s first single-chip USB flash drive IC to market leader in NAND flash controllers and applications. It owns more than 2,000 worldwide patents and continues to invest heavily in R&D to remain at the forefront of the electronics industry.

Excellence award looks at four primary criteria

The Taiwan Excellence Award has existed for more than 30 years and was established with the primary belief that advanced, creative technology has the power to give people across the world a better life. Award panelists carefully consider nominated products to ensure that they offer the peak of innovative value and quality. They assess and evaluate nominated products across four specific aspects: R&D, design, product quality and marketing.

Each winning product, including the Phison X1, has achieved the highest marks in the four aspects and have demonstrated outstanding:

      • Innovation – The product was developed using advanced, thoughtful design to ensure customer satisfaction
      • Excellence – The manufacturer is dedicated to maintaining high standards and works continually to help employees achieve common goals and foster team building, passion for their work and a spirit of collaboration and sharing of knowledge.
      • Value – The product is practical and can realistically improve everyday life and/or work processes.
      • Dependability – The product delivers the highest tier of performance and quality that customers can always rely on.

The winning products not only receive public recognition as a recipient of the Taiwan Excellence Award, but they are also then able to use the award logo in marketing content to make sure their customers know that the product has been distinguished as meeting the highest standards of quality and reliability.

What’s next for Phison?

Since winning the awards for the E22T IC and X1 SSD platform, Phison has continued to innovate and recently announced a lineup of exciting new products at this year’s Flash Memory Summit in August. Coming soon is the next iteration in the X Series, the X200, which represents Phison’s first PCIe Gen5 solution with industry-leading performance and power consumption driven by the company’s unique CoXProcessor CPU. The X200 will offer capacity up to 61.44 TB and come in the E3.S form factor.

Phison is also launching the E26, which has been called the “world’s fastest consumer SSD” with performance that reaches 14,000 MB/s. The company is also strengthening its support of evolving technologies by expanding its existing IMAGIN+ design service to create aiDAPTIV solutions optimized for AI and machine learning workloads.

With continual investment in R&D, Phison is poised to stay on the cutting edge of NAND flash data storage and offer customers the advanced products they need as existing technologies evolve and brand-new technologies emerge.
