In 2019, Phison and AMD released the first PCIe Gen 4 devices for desktop users. AMD shipped the first PCIe Gen 4 platform based on the X570 chipset and Ryzen 3000 Series CPUs. Phison shipped the first PCIe Gen 4 SSD based on the PS5016-E16 with up to 5,000 MB/s performance.

Many OEM system builds shipped the potent combination of X570 with E16 to leverage PCIe Gen4 storage performance. Both companies built upon PCIe Gen 4 successes with 2nd generation products. AMD X570S Series chipsets and Phison new E18 paired delivers up to 7,400 MB/s sequential reads and 7,000 MB/s sequential writes.
