SC24: Phison Showcases World’s Largest Gen5 SSD Capacity, a Record-Breaking Feat of Strength and More

By | Dec 3, 2024 | All, Enterprise

Phison featured its latest technologies and solutions and stood out as a data storage powerhouse.

Super Computing 2024 (SC24) has come and gone, but professionals in data storage, high-performance computing and AI are still processing the exciting advancements and opportunities they witnessed at the event.

Phison made an impressive showing a several different levels this year—not least of which was the company’s announcement of the world’s first Gen5 122.88 TB data center SSD and taking part in a stunning display of strength and storage capacity (while setting a brand-new record). Read on for a rundown of Phison’s SC24 highlights.

Pascari D205V: The world’s first PCIe Gen5 122.88 TB data center SSD

The biggest news by far for Phison at SC24 was the introduction of the Pascari D205V, the first ever Gen5 122.88 TB SSD designed specifically for enterprise data centers. The beefy read-intensive SSD combines Phison’s industry-leading X2 controller and the latest 2 TB 3D QLC technology engineered to enable unequaled 14,600 MB/s sequential read and 3,000K IOPS random read performance.

The company’s pre-event announcement gained wide traction in publications across the tech industry, including Forbes, Storage Newsletter, Blocks and Files, Tom’s Hardware, Tweaktown, and PC Gamer. Some of the coverage focused on how the D205V announcement served to unseat a couple of competitors.

In PC Gamer, Jacob Fox’s article was titled, “World’s biggest PCIe SSD immediately squashed by even bigger and faster PCIe SSD,” and went on to report that Phison’s announcement came right on the heels of announcements from both Solidigm and Micron. After doing some math and figuring that the Pascari D205V SSD could hold “4,388 Valorant installs at roughly 28 GB per install,” he added, “I can’t help but feel sorry for Micron and Solidigm, though, being pipped at the last minute by a bigger, faster, yellower rival. I guess that’s the risk you’re running when you’re racing to make the most of the rapidly growing AI datacentre market.”

An article from TechSpot reported that “Phison steals Micron’s PCIe 5 SSD crown after just one day with a 122TB drive.” (While the total capacity of the SSD is 128 TB, 122.88 TB is usable as storage.) Author Daniel Sims went on to explain: “When Micron unveiled its new 60 TB PCIe Gen 5 data center SSD on Wednesday, the company boasted that it was pushing the technological envelope. However, Phison just leapfrogged it with a model that offers double the capacity and superior write speeds.”

New partnerships keep Phison on cutting-edge of innovation

Phison is continually seeking to partner with best-in-class, future-forward companies that can help Phison deliver the innovative and game-changing solutions to meet evolving customer needs. The company was excited to demonstrate how it had teamed up at SC24.

VDURA – Combining massive capacity with stunning durability and strength
The company formerly known as Panasus is blazing a trail as a leader in AI and HPC infrastructure. At the event, VDURA and Phison put on a “show of strength,” as strongman Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, likely best known as “The Mountain” from HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” lifted a record-breaking amount of data—over 282 PB of storage capacity on Phison’s Pascari D205V SSDs and weighing in at 996 pounds. Björnsson’s feat, watched and cheered on by a large crowd, helped underscore the industry’s growing need for robust, ultra-scalable data storage as organizations more fully embrace AI, machine learning, and real-time data analytics.

Both VDURA and Phison, committed to supporting communities, donated $1,000 each to the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Their contributions will enable the food bank to provide more than 6,000 meals for neighborhood individuals and families in need.

StorONE – Setting new standards for efficiency and security in data storage

Storage management solution provider StorONE teamed up with Phison to demonstrate the benefits and advantages of StorONE’s storage platform and Phison’s SSDs. The partnership proudly announced a solution that achieves 1 million IOPS with just four Phison Pascari X200 drives. Together, the companies offer customers stellar data protection and security without compromising performance and reliability. As organizations increasingly move toward workloads that incorporate big data and AI, the partnership position StorONE and Phison as part of the vanguard in cloud storage technology that is both high performance and secure.

Phison solutions evolve as needs change

Also featured at SC24 was the company’s PCIe Gen6 signal conditioning tool, PS7161 Redriver, which helps enable better performance and signal transmission over networks. Building upon the world’s first CXL 1.1 endpoint achievement for Phison’s Gen5 redriver earlier this year, the PS7161 is the first Gen6 redriver available now for preorder with expected shipping in Q1 2025—and delivers double the speeds of the Gen5 redriver.

Phison also showcased its flagship AI software technology, the aiDAPTIV+ Pro Suite, which provides organizations with the first ever commercial end-to-end AI experience. The suite processes data from ingest to inference and enables organizations to train LLMs on-premises with their own domain-specific data. aiDAPTIV+ Pro Suite makes domain training simple without compromising data privacy, control and affordability.

Phison is a world leader in NAND flash solutions and data storage, and is dedicated to continuous R&D to deliver what customers need. The company is always striving to provide advanced, innovative solutions and technologies that help organizations stay competitive and profitable.
